Why Authentic, classical Pilates over other popular programs?
Authentic or Classical approach is about staying true to the teachings of the methods founder Joesph Pilates. The method is actually called “Contrology”, this is more than just movement, it’s intelligent, structured, and has stood the test of time. This is not just reformer or mat, it’s structured as one connected method not isolated routines. Through correct practice of the method the whole body, mind, and breath are connected. This is not that different from what we are asking of our equine partners, connect the body, connect the mind, connect the breath, fine tune the movement and preform. Pilates method asks this of the body every time your practice.
In recent years the term“Pilates” has been casually used and distorted to serve a purpose it wasn’t intended to serve. It has become and umbrella for anything that looks “Pilatesesque”. Due to this there is a lot of confusion about the true definition of what the Pilates method is and what it really does. All types of Pilates are not identical. Classical respects, preserves, and strives to continue in the way Joesph Pilates intended the method to be taught. Others adjust the method and the apparatus to suite their own needs, forgoing the foundation and core principals for choreography and sweat, sometimes almost HIT style movement . When this happens, you are no longer doing “Pilates” therefore the results are not happening in the way they should, if they are happening at all.
The true method has proven itself for almost a century, done correctly it continues time and time again to transform bodies all around the world. It isn’t just exercise, it’s a living method, when learned properly it lives in your body and communicates to the horse effortlessly often before you can even think it. The method teaches feel, intuition and balance in all planes. Real transformations take place every day on the mat and in the saddle when you practice the method the way Joesph Pilates intended.
